The Substance's Gruesome Body Horror: A Film on Beauty

 Coralie Fargeat's sophomore feature " The Substance "   is a body horror film that has left many viewers with visceral reactions. The horrifying imagery across the screen, however, is not the cause of this disturbance. Instead, it is the emotions that the characters convey.  The film follows main character, Elisabeth Sparkle, as she faces the reality of ageing as a woman in the entertainment industutry when she loses her job on her 50th birthday. Through the film, she actively grows more willing to do whatever it takes to reverse the effects of turning 50 and stay a star, even if that means destroying herself along the way. This is a movie that uses the body horror genre not for shock value, but to tackle issues of ageism and sexism. Horror-ble Movies: Why Should We Watch All of This Blood and Gore?

  Hello everyone, my name is Kenzie B. and I am a big fan of the H orror genre. From cult classics like The   Silence of the Lambs  to newer, quirky films like Bodies Bodies Bodies , it's all my jam. In my opinion, this genre isn't given the credit it deserves.  Society loves to chalk up Horror movies up to a blood bath of unnecessary gore. The truth is that Horror opens a door to a world of conversations about societal issues. The radical and intense nature of Horror movies doesn't make the social commentary within any less worthy than any other genre, yet it often gets ignored because of the stigma around it. This is exactly why I have created this blog.  Through this blog I will be uncovering the meaning of the screaming hidden within Horror Film.
