Horror-ble Movies: Why Should We Watch All of This Blood and Gore?

Hello everyone, my name is Kenzie B. and I am a big fan of the Horror genre. From cult classics like The Silence of the Lambs to newer, quirky films like Bodies Bodies Bodies, it's all my jam. In my opinion, this genre isn't given the credit it deserves.

Society loves to chalk up Horror movies up to a blood bath of unnecessary gore. The truth is that Horror opens a door to a world of conversations about societal issues. The radical and intense nature of Horror movies doesn't make the social commentary within any less worthy than any other genre, yet it often gets ignored because of the stigma around it. This is exactly why I have created this blog.

Through this blog I will be uncovering the meaning of the screaming hidden within Horror Film. Horror can be a powerful vessel of social commentary but sometimes we need a little help to discover it. By looking into and analyzing the messaging in the fear depicted on our screens, I hope to share with you how Horror can be more than just blood and gore.

As I share my analysis on the messages within Horror Movies, I would love to hear feedback from you. What do you think of the films? Do you agree with my perspective on them? What movie should I look into next? I encourage you to share all of this and more  in the comments below so that together we can further our understanding of the messaging within Horror and get the genre the credit that it deserves.

  1. Hello Kenzie,
Horror is, admittedly, an interest of mine. I am, however, most definitely not the most knowledgeable regarding the genre as a whole or anything, but as a writer and storyteller, I find the attention to detail in horror, from sound production to visual framing, such a valuable art. Given that social commentary in art is one of my favorite topics ever, I am so excited to see where you go with this blog — I already really enjoyed your writing style and use of fun fonts!

  2. Hello Kenzie,
I am not a huge fan of horror movies and I never really have been. Since moving to college my roommates that I have now love horror movies and I have started to watch them, but still have not been able to get into them. I am however interested to hear more about this topic and what you will bring to it and maybe bring up some points and open my eyes to what people love so much about horror movies.

  3. Solid initial post, Kenzie. I love your title. You make it clear why you are writing and what readers can hope to find here, as well as what you are looking for from them. A few things to think about: Avoid capitalizing random words (horror or horror films, for example). Only capitalize proper nouns. Also, when you name a movie, put the title in quotation marks (that is AP Style rather than the italics you would see in other styles, such as APA or MLA).
